WELCOME TO MAKERS UNION PDX!
Makers Union PDX sprang up in Spring 2020 as a solution for Portland-area artists, makers, and creatives whose business models were based on in-person markets and retail accounts. As stores closed and markets were cancelled, our founders created an online marketplace. The marketplace supports our creative community and provides an online space for makers to sell their goods.
Sterling Collins is a designer and craftsperson based in Portland, Oregon. In 2013, Sterling founded his practice, Hew, which concentrates on the objects used in our everyday lives - creating furniture and homewares. All work is designed and hand built by Sterling.
As a part of his commitment to craft, Sterling is also a woodworking instructor. Sterling has taught primarily through Oregon College of Art and Craft, PNCA, as a visiting artist at large social media companies, and through group and private lessons in his shop.
Prior to forming his studio, Sterling practiced architecture at an international firm based in Chicago. There he worked on the design teams for several of the tallest buildings in the world, including work throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
