Makers Union PDX hosted the Makers Studio during the 2021 holiday season. The Makers Studio was a unique six-week holiday popup shop located inside Lonesome Pictopia, a women-owned wall paper design studio. Open from November 17 through December 24, the shop featured 75 local makers representing art, crafts, ceramics, foods, clothing, jewelry, personal care, furniture, wood works, home goods and more. The Makers Studio was featured in Portland Monthly's 10 "can't miss" holiday popups and in the Oregonian.
Participating makers voted to donate 5% of in-shop sales to a local nonprofit, Taking Ownership PDX. Taking Ownership is a collective of contractors, realtors, neighbors, and businesses brought together by Portland musician, activist Randal Wyatt. Together, they renovate and revive Black-owned homes, enabling Black homeowners to age in place, generate wealth, and simultaneously deter predatory investors and realtors to deflect the gentrification process.
